Water is an essential part of living, it comprise of 2 elements which are Hydrogen, Oxygen and it exists in gaseous,solid,and liquid form. All living creatures and plants need water to survive.

Water makes up to 50% to 75% of the human body, Drinking Water does not contain carbohydrates, sugar, fibres, or starch. Water is required for digestion, absorption ,transportation,elimination of waste production ,thermoregulation and dissolving nutrients. Men have higher percentage of body mass as water than in woman. The relative mass of water decrease in both men and women.

According to a research carried out by the National Academics of sciences, engineering and medicine determined that an adequate water intake for Men is 15.5 cups which is 3.7 liters  while for Women is 11.5 cups which is 2.7 liters for a day. As you get older by the day your water body content begin to decrease. Elderly people lose about 2 liters of water a per day. 





Vegetables like lettuces, tomatoes, cucumber have a very high water content which makes them very low in calories but high in nutrient value. Fruit like oranges,pineapples also have very high water content.


IMPORTANCE OF WATER.

  • Water helps to prevent obesity due to its thermogenesis properties.
  • Protect your spinal cord and other sensitive part of the body.
  • It helps to lubricant joints.
  • Water regulates your body temperature.
  • Water serves as a shock absorber inside the eyes, spinal cords and in the amniotic sac surrounding the foetus in pregnancy.
  • Keep the bloodstream liquid enough to flow through blood vessels
  • Help eliminate the by-products of the body’s metabolism, excess electrolytes (for example, sodium and potassium), and urea, which is a waste product formed through the processing of dietary protein.
  • Water regulate your body temperature and ensure proper digestion.
Your body needs more water when you are when running a fever, having diarrhea or vomiting, more physical activities or in hot climates.

Here are some tips to increase your water intake 
  • Train yourself to have water at all times.
  • Drink a glass of water before meal.
  • Keep a bottle of water at your desk in case you are busy.
  • Drink a bottle of water while you wait for your coffee brew in the morning.


Always replace the water that comes out of your body like sweat, urine, and tears. If you don’t replace them,it might lead to dehydration.
